Obscured 2/F is a design project dedicated to the neglected second floors in the city of Hong Kong, footbridges. Taking the slash (/) as a visual symbolisation, it mirrors this infrastructure’s physical function as connection and separation. The project documents and investigates 46 footbridges in 16 variables. Through aesthetic, spatial, and sociocultural perspectives, it reveals their implicit impact and contribution to the cityscape and the human activities beyond theirs functional roles in daily life.
Geometric and isometric infographic style offer insights unfolded from research and observation, while the obscurity theme is embedded in the choices of paper, and novel map reading experience. To shed light on the negative space of footbridges, the installation engages visitors with the surface beneath with mirror on ground, showcasing photographs of scenery under footbridges.
